We use Fusion 360 from Autodesk to make manufacturing files ready for CNC. You can download Fusion 360 from here and set up a free student license using your KADK email:
In order to export a 3D shape from Rhino in Fusion 360, we use a .step file format. When exporting as a .step file, the file needs to be a solid with a closed geometry. If the geometry is not closed you have to find a guide on how to close the surface.
When you are ready to export the model as a step file, do the following steps.
From the File menu, click Export Selected or Save As.
In the dialog box, the Files of type list displays the currently supported file types for export. Choose .step
Enter file name and destination
The file can now be imported in Fusion. Click file in the top left corner and upload in Fusion 360 to upload the file.
To import your .dxf drawing in Fusion 360, click on file in the top left corner, and press upload.
Press "Show data panel" and click on "Admin Projects" to find your uploaded file and double click on it.
Now that you have your uploaded .stp file open, you can now manufacture your model.
With your object(s) now extruded, you can start creating a manufacturing file for your project. Depending on if you have one or multiple object you would like to manufacture choose either "Single Object Setup" or "Multiple Object Setup" below.
If you have a single object to CNC route, you can start here. Press the link "Single Object Setup" below.
If you have multiple objects to CNC route, you can begin here. Press the link "Multiple Object Setup" below.
